The Disrutpor Framwork is a rising star in recent years in the High Performance Java arena. The Disruptor is a general-purpose mechanism that solves a complex problem in concurrent programming in a way that maximizes performance, and that is simple to implement. The Disruptor has significantly less write contention, a lower concurrency overhead and is more cache friendly than comparable approaches, all of which results in greater throughput with less jitter at lower latency. On processors at moderate clock rates we have seen over 25 million messages per second and latencies lower than 50 nanoseconds. This is very close to the theoretical limit of a modern processor to exchange data between cores. In this presentation, we discuss why we want to use Disruptor, what makes it so fast, and how to use it.
Dr. Charles Huang received his PhD from the University of Kentucky in 2004, his research focusing on High Performance Computing (HPC) on Cluster and Grid Computing platforms. Upon graduation, he had the opportunity to instrument one of the world's largest and fastest super computer clusters in the global top 500 list (top500.org). Then, he worked for two VOIP/Unified Communications startups, with a brief stop as government scientist on grid computing in California Institute of Technology in between. Currently, he is doing consulting for the financial industries.
